Sunrise: A Poem
The sky is pink this morning.
I see houses silhouetted by the morning sun.
Strokes of lavender,
wisps of blue,
you are painting the sky for your own pleasure,
and I get to watch.
You’re a God of joy.
You like to smile.
Does the sunrise make you smile?
When I see your creation,
the flaming sky,
it brings a smile to my lips.
A smile of contentment.
Lately I’ve been worn out, God.
I’ve been so busy and sometimes I forget to talk to you.
Sometimes I just want to cry because I’m so tired
of everything.
But you’re still here, God.
You’ve always been here
beckoning
reminding me to rest awhile
with you.
I’m undone, God.
I’m reminded once again that I just need you.
All of this– this busyness– it could all fade away and fall apart
but still I would have everything I need
because I have you.
And you have me in your heart.
I’m enveloped in your arms
and I’m undone.
So here I sit in the silence.
The sky is waking up
preparing for a new day.
I have to get busy again soon
but in this moment– right now–
All is still.
All is still.
Silent.
The flaming sky is alive with color
that you set in motion.
I’m undone.
So here I sit in the silence,
watching the sun rise
with you.
