Latin and Some Books
Hey y’all! It’s been over a week since I’ve posted anything, which is surprising, even to me. I don’t have a specific thing to write about tonight, so I’m going to bring up a new topic: Latin!
If you know me, you know that Latin is my favorite subject for school. I love acing tests and studying like a madwoman for exams. I drive my family crazy with repeating “I got another hundred, did you hear yet?”
And they sort of roll their eyes and say “Uhh…. yeah. I heard!”
Among my accomplishments are successfully memorizing the demonstrative pronouns, translating small amounts of Latin poetry, and teaching the toddler to conjugate ‘Amo, Amare’, which is a sight to behold.
There’s something really satisfying about working hard for something and finally accomplishing it and seeing the fruit. That could mean studying for a big test, or it could be renovating a house. (Both of which I’ve done recently, even helping on renovating two houses these past couple years. I am known sometimes as Paint Woman where I come from, on account of the many rooms I’ve painted!)
Among my Christmas gifts this past December, some really stood out. One would be Winne Ille Pu, which is the Latin translation of (you guessed it!) Winnie the Pooh. Though it’s a very interesting book to look through, it’s much harder to translate than you’d think!
Another book was BIBLIA SACRA, the Bible in Latin and English. Great for finding quotes from, because everything sounds cooler in Latin!
The third book I want to bring up is The Oxford Book of Aphorisms, a very interesting book that my dad picked out. It’s fun of pithy sayings, some wise, some funny, some plain wrong, but they’re all cool, that’s what I think! I’ll probably be including quotes from this book in some blog posts, as I did for my first one.
Also, don’t worry! I haven’t forgotten about the short stories that I want to post, but first I need to find them on the computer somewhere! Fields of Water will be coming soon, and then any other writings of mine that I find and want people to read.
Well, it’s getting late, and I’ve run out of things to say for now.
Bonam fortunam habete, et valete omnes!
Abby, all of those things are so cool!!! I’m currently taking both latin and greek, though I’m not very good at either, and I love hearing about your progress. We actually have a greek bible and I love trying to recognize words!
