Pain | Beauty
Darkness.
Stillness.
A tiny heart fluttering,
beating,
thumping
within.
.
My hand rests over the pulsing life
inside of me.
.
Sweat and tears mingle on my face,
I am exhausted.
I am just a girl,
only a girl,
and the Creator of the Universe
chose to come to earth
through
me.
.
I know the time is coming near,
I can feel it
in my body.
.
He is coming soon.
.
I take Joseph’s hand,
and meet his eyes.
Are you ready? he asks me.
Are you ready?
He’s coming soon.
.
Then the pain changes
I can feel it–
it hurts–
it hurts–
.
I cry out.
.
On the floor of this little stable
Joseph holds me
in his strong arms.
.
All he can do is be with me
as pain
brings life
into
this world.

I loved how you showed the beauty of her suffering. Truly great job!
It’s so amazing to think that Mary really was just a girl. She was probably a teenager, probably about 14 or 15–my age. And the Lord chose her. This is amazing, Abby. Thanks for sharing.
