I Like Words.

This poem is best read aloud.

I Like Words.

By Abby.

Words, words, a writer’s best friend

I love so many – the list never ends

There’s pedantic, pernickety, clickety-clack,

And then there are phrases, like “I need a snack”

Which is true, by the way. I’ll be back

When I’ve raided the pantry for chocolate and then-

Here’s some more: ashore, galore, adore

Wisteria, mysterious, fearless and lore

And coffee and toffee and cheesecake and pie

And nope, don’t you dare ask me why

I keep talking about food, that’s rude and I’m hungry

That reminds me, I like the words mungry  and bungry

And flipper and dipper and chocolate sauce

And don’t give me that look, it’s only your loss

That you’ve never met such a person as me, you see

The list just goes on, with jelly and belly and zealous and eel

And squirrel and platypus and jealous and meal

And BOOK rhymes with COOK and ooh – dinner’s burning

I’ll be back momentarily, my stomach is yearning

For the timer to beep and I like SHEEP and SLEEP and UPKEEP

And gargoyle and wet soil and turmoil – like the state of my stomach

Now it really is burning, and I’d better stop

With my favorite words, like macaroni and popcorn

I’ll see you later, dear alligator and then

Perhaps my list will see its end.
