little joyful things
Posted On September 26, 2023
With the arrival of falltime, I would like to share a list of some things in my life that bring me joy – some little, some big, but hey, joy is joy.😊
- Cool weather. It’s no secret that I love falltime. There is something so utterly refreshing about walking out to the van in the morning before school, feeling that chilled air on my face. Ahhhh….
- Friendship. This year of school has been good. I started going to a new school last year, and this year I’m really starting to feel like myself around my friends, and I’ve just really loved having those friends that I can see every day.
- My Bible. Over the years I’ve had it, it’s been filled with lots of underlined verses, scrawled notes jotted in the margins, random scraps of paper, letters from people I care about, lists of my friends’ prayer needs… It just makes me happy. It’s becoming an old friend and I love that. Random, but hey.
- Music! Ach! Not only have I been playing guitar excessively (you should see my calluses) but also I’ve loved finding new artists to listen to. There’s something about music that just makes me feel so full.
- My family. Okay, they drive me nuts sometimes, introvert that I can be, but really. I’m grateful. From teaching my siblings guitar, to snuggling with my littlest sister while we giggle over a silly movie, to the late night talks with my sister… I’m grateful. I’m realizing that one of these days I’ll be moving out of the house, and that makes me savor these precious days all the more.
- The sky. I love being the one person who looks up and notices the sky. Weird, but still… What great beauty hides in plain sight directly above our heads!
My sister laughs because every couple days I’ll comment to her “Look at the sky!” and she’ll say “what guy??”. LOL. I told her I need a t-shirt that says “I admire skies not guys”. XD - Fun shoes. So, I had these white leather Keds for school last year. I loved them immensely. This year I got a new pair, so I took the liberty of painting bright yellow sunflowers all over my old shoes. They make me happy.
That’s all for today. I know, I disappear for a month and randomly come back with yet another sporadic post. What can I say? I’m a strange and sporadic person. 😉
What brings you joy today? Little or big. I want to hear. Tell me in the comments. 👇🏼

Oh I just love these. 🤍
Here are some of mine…
– Coffeeshop adventures with one of my bestest friends
– Finishing the Bible all the way through (yay!) And then deciding to do it twice in a row.
– The choral arrangement of “Shenandoah” that’s been stuck in my head for the past two days
– Pavlova
– Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night.”
– Chai Lattes
– Driving at night when no one is awake
Abby, I love this post, so much! Thank you for the reminder to be grateful ❤️
I’ve come to appreciate my family so much more over the past month. Between college classes (I’m dually enrolled), babysitting, soccer, church, frisbee, Bible Studies, co-op, and other random events that pop up (because that’s just life), I’m gone for every portion of the day every day right now, and being homeschooled I’m not used to that. So I’ve grown much more appreciative of the time that I get to spend with them.
And also, I’m going to see Sight & Sound’s production of Moses on Friday (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!!!!!!).
Abby, I love this! It made me so happy to read your list. Some things that make me joyful are finishing a full day of schoolwork in good time, cooler temperatures, and having deep friendships.
