A Not-So-Exotic Vacation, and What I Did On It

As I mentioned in a previous post, we went on vacation recently. I also mentioned that I planned to get a whole lot of writing done on that trip. This post will tell y’all all about that.

So, before we left on our trip I actually had a bad dream; in that dream, we had gone on vacation and I had forgotten to bring a laptop for writing with. Sort of funny, but really, it was awful! I mean, I know I can write in a notebook, but for me, typing is so much easier and faster. Plus, my handwriting isn’t exactly lovely.

So anyway, the vacation house was really nice. Exotic? No. By a frozen lake? Yes! And there was even a Tiki Bar on the dock, covered in about three inches of snow under 30 degrees. It was nice, so long as you stayed inside. Which is what I did.

My days went something like this. I would wake up at about 9, lay in bed staring at the wall for about ten more minutes before getting up and sitting at the bar while somebody made breakfast and I sipped a cup of coffee. (We had these stupendous breakfast sandwiches on day, with bacon and eggs and cheese bagels…. so good! I can eat breakfast sandwiches just about all the time!) Then we had family gathering time, we’d read some from the bible, talk about it, then watch an episode of The Chosen, and excellent series based off of the life of Jesus. (I would highly recommend it.)

By the time we were done with that, it’d be around 11:30. This was where my writing comes in. I’d get out my dad’s computer, get mom to do the password, then sneak upstairs to the loft and sit at the conference table that was there.

I’m going to cut in real quick and explain the loft. It was by far the best part of the vacation house, in my opinion. Sure, there wasn’t much up there. There was a bed (which I slept in), the aforementioned conference table, a window, and a cot where my sister slept. (In the corner, not that she minded.) Anyway, the loft overlooked the main area, and it was relatively private if you discount the fact that you could be seen by anyone on the second floor of the house.

So after gathering time, I’d sneak up there and open up my document titled “Kai and Gwyn Writing”. I’d labeled it that with the hopes that it would turn out to be just that. So, for the record, I didn’t get much story writing done on that trip. However… I did write an entire outline for my novel and part of the second novel also. So, I consider that to be a good trip. I spent so many hours on that… it’s sort of ridiculous. But it was good.

Anyway, the vacation was great. I had no responsibilities, really… I’d done all my Latin work ahead so I could be free. We ate lots of good food, and some not-so-good food. I took a bath in an awesome claw-footed tub and slept in a loft. It was an all around very nice three days!

Well, that’s all I can think of to say about our vacation. Not much happened.. but at the same time, a lot of things happened. I wrote my outline, which feels like a big deal, and once we got back home I started my actual story. I’m starting chapter four today, and I’ll have to see where that goes!

So, I am also taking another writing class as of right now, and will be posting some of my stories from that. (Be expecting a lot more Emery stories!)

Bonam fortunam habete, et valete omnes!
