Battle in the Dark

Recently I wrote this poem in collaboration with a writing friend of mine, Cosette, from Herald of the Coming Kingdom. Be sure to find it over there too! Drop a comment below to tell us what you think!

Battle in the Dark

By Cosette and Abby

.

I pour water over the bag,

I watch it steep, my shoulders sag.

Yes, I must write, though I’m quite tired,

For it’s at night that I’m inspired.

.

I know I must get up early

But I can’t sleep, for now, surely,

The words will come; I sip my tea

And then I smile: I’ve found the key.

.

The words leak out, pen on page,

One word at a time the battle will rage.

It’s a crossing, a voyage – an internal fight

A beautiful journey from darkness to light.

The slightest noise catches my ear

What was that? What do I hear?

But I shake my head and I turn back

To write is a battle, and I’ll attack.

.

Some days it’s easy – more often it’s not

Those days I feel empty, drained of all thought.

It’s those days I need to ask for His strength

To press forward, to run one more length.

.

I close my eyes and order my thoughts

I’ll push on forward until I’ve caught

The vision, the dream that’s in my head,

Then, one day, perhaps it will be read.
