moving forward into 2023 (+ 2022 stats)
.
Well, y’all, 2023 is here. Isn’t it weird how January first feels like a huge deal in some ways, but also is just another day?
To me, it’s a fresh start, a time to reset and reassess my life. My dad was talking to us about the idea of choosing our ‘big rocks’ for the year – the big things that we want to focus on. Choose my priorities. It’s a time to ask myself:
Where do I want to be by next January?
5 years from now?
What steps can I take today to get a little closer?
I’m a big dreamer, and sometimes I get so caught up in the big things I want to do that I don’t actually plan out how I’m going to make those dreams my reality.
Long-term, what is most important to me? I want to live a fully-alive life and know Jesus better than anyone, and be known by him! So what can I be doing right now to prepare myself? What tiny little steps can I take today? How can I say yes to him?
I can get so caught up in the little, busy things, that I forget to focus on what’s really important. So it’s this time of year, the chilly, grey, damp beginning of January, that I think about the goals I want to make.
.
I’m not a huge ‘plan out my entire life in a list’ kinda gal, but I do like to list a few goals at the beginning of every year. Here are a few of mine:
- finish my novel (finally) & continue blogging
- immerse myself in the Word
- journal most or every day
- work hard at school
- be more purposeful in relationships
- grow in CONFIDENCE in who I am – a Child of God!!!
What a brain dump. Sorry, y’all.
All of that has been on my mind lately. I’ve been really trying to hone in on what it is I want this year to look like – I really want to be intentional about my life and using my time well. Listing those above goals, I’m finding that what I really want to do is grow and mature more in who I am. I want to be comfortable in myself and grow in confidence. I want to keep seeking the Lord and get to know him better.
Ya know, I think I’m going to write out a list of my short- and long-term goals and slap it on my mirror, where I can be reminded of them regularly. Too often they get lost in my notebooks where I don’t see them for a year and then lament the fact that I haven’t budged an inch in that area of my life.
Look, God is doing a new thing! He’s asking us to join him. Good things are coming this year – let’s live in expectation of his goodness and flourish in his Spirit! He is good. If you’re going through a difficult time right now and don’t have much hope, I pray that you can cling to him. He won’t let go.
Let this year burst with his exceptional goodness! Together, let’s move forward into the New Year.
Thanks for sticking with me this long, and I hope you’ll stick around a long while. You guys are amazing.

Before you go, what are some of your goals for the new year? What hopes and aspirations do you have? How have you grown over the past year? Let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear from you.
What a beautiful post, Abby! I enjoyed it very much.
I am looking forward to the ways God will show himself to me in the new year. If I learned anything from 2022, i’s that he is ever so much more than we can dream of, and I can’t wait to find more of him over the next twelve months.
Thanks, Annabelle! ♥I love that.
Ooh I love your goals for the year ahead! Mine are really similar. For 2023 I chose a word of the year: intentional. I think all of my goals fall under that word–I want to be intentional about spending time with God, writing, and relationships.
I love that word! I’m still thinking about a word of the year, but that was one that came to mind.
Wow, Abby. Thank you. This post was so inspiring! It was just the little push I needed to really feel motivated to do New Yearsy things such as clean out my room. 😄
My word of the year for 2023 is humility. “Humility is the fear of the Lord; its wages are riches and honor and life” (Proverbs 22:4). This verse completely changed how I view humility, so this year I want to learn to fear the Lord better.
Thank you for Ladybluebird! I can’t wait to see where it goes in the next year and I look forward to each post. ❣️
That’s great! Don’t you love a New Year’s room cleaning? XD
I love that word, and the verse! Thanks for sharing!
Aw, you’re welcome. I’m so glad for readers like you♥
This post was really awesome, Abby! I needed that as I’m thinking about my own New Year’s goals.
I think my word of the year is going to be Serving. The Lord has really been putting that word on my heart lately and showing me how I can use my gifts for Him. And that I’m not too young to do so.
Your blog is amazing and I can’t wait to see where God takes you in 2023. From the very beginning you’ve been doing something very special here and it’s been a joy to watch you grow and share Christ’s light here. Thank you for all you do.
Love always
Thanks so much for sharing, Abby!
Also, you said something that reminded me of Isaiah 43:18-21 (which my one of our pastors preached on this past Sunday) and it says, “Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The wild beasts will honor me, the jackals and the ostriches, for I give water in the wilderness, rivers in the desert, to give drink to my chosen people, the people whom I formed for myself that they might declare my praise.”
Thanks for the reminder to seek after the Lord. I think you’ve inspired me to set some goals for myself, something I don’t normally do come the new year…
Thanks for the motivation!! Happy new year!
I got Genius, although my opposite is Flying.’
Does anyone else take the quizes twice to answer with questions you would never click to see their opposite?
These are great goals!
I wish you luck on all your big rocks!
